The Kathy Kaehler Fitness System [VHS]

This video presents a full 100 minutes of Kathy Kaehler’s workout programs and advice. Kaehler, trainer to the stars, presents several different workouts, accompanied by some of her celebrity trainees. Depending on your level and goals, you can mix and match. Beginning Step with Jamie Gertz is 20 minutes, consisting of a simple, repetitive step workout with plenty of instruction. The intermediate step section with Justin Bateman adds another 15 minutes and uses hand weights with choreography that works the muscles harder, but is almost as basic and repetitive as before. The advanced section with Julianne Phillips is another 15 minutes, with faster choreography, a weight vest as well as hand weights, and a higher step (you don’t have to do all of these intensifiers at once). If you like varied choreography with challenging patterns, this video will bore you with its many, many repetitions of basic moves. But if your preference is for simple, repeated moves that burn fat and work the muscles effectively, Kaehler is a knowledgeable personal trainer.

After the aerobic step workout, you get a series of body-sculpting segments using light weights for the upper body and exercises such as lunges for the lower body. Kaehler’s celebrity trainees in these segments are Penelope Ann Miller (weights), Tawny Kitaen (abdominals), and Beverly D’Angelo (stretching). Balance Ball Fitness – Abs Workout [VHS]

There are plenty of ways to work the abs using a stability ball, and instructor Suzanne Deason uses them all. Deason is a yoga and Pilates instructor who incorporates both disciplines in this rigorous, slow-paced workout for the abdominals and back. Deason instructs soothingly and interrupts the workout several times for needed stretches and rest breaks, but your abs will still scream by the end of this 45-minute video.

You’ll need a BalanceBall or other stability ball (large, inflatable, exercise ball). If you’ve never used one before, don’t worry–Deason spends time showing you how to sit on it using your balance muscles so you don’t roll off. Then she uses the ball in many different positions: sitting on it, lying on it belly up, lying on it belly down, holding it, rolling it, lifting it, bouncing it, even kneeling on it.
